Director, Privacy and Cybersecurity

REPORTS TO: Senior VP and General Counsel                   

 

ABOUT CTIA:

 

CTIA (www.ctia.org) represents the U.S. wireless communications industry and the companies throughout the mobile ecosystem. The association’s members include wireless carriers, device manufacturers, suppliers as well as apps and content companies. CTIA vigorously advocates at all levels of government for policies that foster continued wireless innovation and investment. The association also coordinates the industry’s voluntary best practices, hosts educational events that promote the wireless industry and co-produces the industry’s leading wireless tradeshow. CTIA was founded in 1984 and is based in Washington, D.C.

 

CTIA seeks a Director of Privacy and Cybersecurity to further the Association’s positions on behalf of its members with respect to developments in privacy and cybersecurity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED):

 

  • Develop and advocate policy positions on privacy and cybersecurity issues
  • Monitor and analyze relevant activities at the Federal, state, and local levels of government
  • Coordinate with member company representatives to disseminate information, develop policy positions and industry goals and objectives, and determine advocacy strategy
  • Meet with Federal and other Governmental representatives to advocate on behalf of Association positions
  • Conduct research; draft pleadings, op-eds, talking points and other materials
  • Manage outside counsel and other consultants
  • Collaborate with other CTIA departments and staff, including with respect to advocacy, third-party outreach, and communications strategy
  • Represent the Association at conferences, seminars, and other regulatory and industry meetings
  • Respond to requests for information from members of the Association, federal regulatory agencies and the Executive Branch
  • Reinforce CTIA’s reputation as an effective advocate and thought-leader in tech and telecom matters

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the wireless industry and familiarity with key policy issues affecting the industry, such as consumer protection, E-911, universal service, taxes and fees.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with large, dynamic groups representing association membership
  • Organization and ability to produce extensive material and reports within a short time frame
  • Motivation, hardworking, willingness to travel and work long hours

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

B.A (or B.S.); and J.D. (or other appropriate professional or graduate degree). Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of post-graduate experience with a focus on federal regulatory and administrative procedures.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Detail-oriented with knowledge of grammar and punctuation.  Proficiency in proofreading skills and strong communications skills are required.
