We have been retained by ACUTRONIC, the world’s leader in the development, design and manufacturing of precision motion simulation, to recruit a Legal & Compliance Officer based in Pittsburgh, PA. Candidates for this newly created position must have a minimum of 5 years of legal experience with an emphasis on U.S. export legal compliance matters, excellent academic credentials, the ability to juggle multiple projects at once and an exceptionally high level of attention to detail. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in both a law firm and corporate setting, exposure to engineering disciplines and/or experience in a manufacturing corporation.
This position will be responsible for continued strategic leadership of the company’s export activities including licensing and the continued development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures and best practices, which ensure sustained compliance with export laws and regulations of the countries in which ACUTRONIC operates. This position is also responsible for promoting compliance initiatives, obtaining necessary export authorizations to ensure full compliance with all regulatory agencies and developing ethics and compliance training programs.
In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations relating to International Traffic in Arms (ITAR), U.S. State Department and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) of the U.S. Commerce Department, Import Regulations and Requirements, Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) – Special Trade Controls, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS), Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) or international equivalents and Data Privacy laws and regulations is required. Experience and knowledge of the Department of State (Directorate of Defense Trade Control), Department of Commerce (Bureau of Industry & Security), Defense Trade & Security Agency and Department of Justice is preferred.
This position’s responsibilities also will include handling a varied range of legal work including reviewing contracts, providing hands-on legal and business advice for commercial decisions and assisting with general corporate, corporate governance, labor and employment and health and safety matters.
This role is entrepreneurial in nature and in direct support of the company’s Executive Committee. A successful candidate will be able to assume greater responsibilities over time and provide broad-based managerial leadership in support of the company’s commercial negotiations, legal risk matters, mergers and acquisitions and strategic expansion plans. He/she also will provide practical legal advice and be approachable, highly motivated, extremely responsive and able to work in an international environment.
