G&S has been engaged on an exclusive basis to assist a longstanding and favorite client, a nationally recognized company in the IT services business, in its search to add a part-time Associate General Counsel (“AGC”) of Disputes and Litigation to its legal team. This position is well suited for a self-motivated and collaborative attorney whose first response to an issue is to “dive in and resolve.”
Responsibilities: Identifying and responding to potential disputes early on and working collaboratively with individuals or opposing counsel to try and achieve a settlement; drafting and responding to complaints; responding to 3rd party subpoenas and government regulatory agencies; managing the eDiscovery process and supervising outside vendors; taking and defending depositions; drafting briefs, opinions and cease and desist letters; making local court appearances; and occasionally managing local counsel. The AGC would also collaborate with the HR Department and provide advice on employment related issues. This position provides significant interaction with and exposure to the business side.
Candidate Profile Sought: 5-10 years of complex commercial litigation experience (breach of contract, fraud, unlawful trade practices, libel/defamation, etc.) and be a skilled negotiator, excellent writer, and creative problem solver. The ability to communicate with internal and external business professionals effectively and concisely is a necessity. Familiarity with advertising related litigation in general district courts and consumer related litigation in state courts is highly preferred. Candidates must have some courtroom experience (and arbitration experience is a plus). Admission to the Virginia Bar or the ability to qualify for the Virginia Corporate Counsel designation upon hire is required.
Part-Time Schedule: In recent years, the Legal Department has been successful in managing litigation cases and resolving disputes at an earlier stage, which is why this position has evolved into a part-time role. Specifically, the AGC will be expected to work in the company headquarters three days per week. Typical office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (with some flexibility). Note: hours will not exceed 30 per week, so please only apply if you are interested in working part-time.
Local applicants only, please.
