Staff Attorney (Associate General Counsel)
The Pennsylvania State University’s Office of General Counsel seeks to hire an Associate General Counsel as described in this posting who will be substantially dedicated to providing legal advice and support for the Defense Related Research Units (DRRU), the Applied Research Laboratory and the Electro-Optics Center, at the Pennsylvania State University. Areas of responsibility for the DRRU will include compliance, internal investigations, federal contracting, national security issues, dispute resolution, ethics, conflicts of interest and day-to-day legal advice to the Executive Director of the DRRU and DRRU’s senior management. The successful candidate may also advise the University on the full range of issues that it faces, including legal issues related to contracting, compliance and risk management. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President and General Counsel and also the Executive Director of the DRRU. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a J.D. or L.L.B. from an ABA-accredited law school or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or be eligible for prompt admission. Prior federal contracting experience with Department of Defense is preferred and the ability to promote and develop strategic relationships required. Experience with procurement and implementing and maintaining compliance programs is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism, possess superior communication skills, have demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and professional manner with peers and clients, have a strong interest in working in the Penn State Office of General Counsel, and have a strong interest in the work and mission of the DRRU.
