Chief Talent Officer

 

The Hartford office of Shipman & Goodwin LLP, a law firm with more
than 175 attorneys in CT, NY and D.C., is seeking a firm wide Chief Talent
Officer (“CTO”) to lead the firm’s strategic human resources function and
to provide leadership to the firm as a whole on human capital issues.  As
one of four chief administrators at the firm, the CTO reports to the Managing
Partner and develops, coordinates and implements firm wide policies and
programs encompassing all aspects of the Firm’s human resources functions and
diversity & inclusion (“D&I”) initiatives.  The CTO oversees human
resources for lawyer and non-lawyer staff, D&I, talent management,
professional development, benefits, performance management and participates in
fostering an organizational culture that is committed to professional
excellence, mutual respect and that values differing perspectives and
backgrounds.   The CTO must have an extensive knowledge of federal,
state and local laws and regulations pertaining to personnel and benefits
matters and knowledge of HR trends and best practices.  Candidates must
have a Bachelor’s degree and an advanced degree, such as a JD or MBA, is
preferred along with SHRM certification.  The ideal candidate must have a
minimum of seven years of progressively responsible management experience
working in a law firm or other professional services environment overseeing the
talent, compensation and benefits functions.  The CTO’s role includes the
oversight of the design and implementation of the Firm’s initiatives to
effectively attract, recruit and retain a diverse staff and attorney
workforce.  It is essential that the CTO possess outstanding interpersonal
skills and exhibit poise, the ability to build consensus and lead through
influence. The CTO must be accessible, direct, transparent, and possess a
collaborative working style that motivates and inspires colleagues to work hard
and well together, offers a clear sense of direction, and holds self and staff
accountable.  The CTO must demonstrate an ability and a willingness to
adhere to the Firm’s core values. Additionally, the CTO must possess proficient
technology skills, exhibit high energy and demonstrate a strong work
ethic.
