ACT | The App Association represents small business application developers and connected device companies across the United States and around the globe. These companies create innovative solutions introducing new efficiencies across consumer and enterprise use cases. The App Association represents this innovative community before government policymakers, courts, and others to change policies that will enable small companies to grow, create jobs, and succeed.

Who you are:

ACT | The App Association seeks a Policy Associate curious about and interested in the legal and policy issues affecting the small business technology developer community. You will help to develop and execute the App Association’s advocacy efforts on a variety of issue areas, including connected health, privacy, competition and antitrust, cybersecurity, international trade, disability access, and workforce development. You should have some experience and a strong interest in working with various U.S. government agencies, such as the Department of Commerce, the Federal Trade Commission, and the U.S. Trade Representative, as well as sector-specific agencies, such as the Department of Health and Human Services; and engaging with courts. You must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines across diverse areas of law and policy. You will report to the App Association’s Senior Global Policy Counsel.

Requirements:

  • A proactive, collaborative, and curious approach to identifying and influencing policy and legal challenges impacting small business technology developers
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with U.S. legislative and federal administrative agency processes
  • Ability to interact professionally and independently with internal and external stakeholders, including public officials
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of technology policy and legal issues
  • Self-starter with the ability to effectively handle multiple projects/tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others
  • Graduation from an accredited law school and admission/pending admission to a state or territory bar

Responsibilities:

  • Research and draft written advocacy positions for a variety of U.S. policymakers in Congress and across federal agencies, as well as policymakers abroad
  • Contribute to the authoring of court filings (e.g., amicus briefs)
  • Plan and execute advocacy initiatives based on App Association member experiences
  • Represent the App Association in meetings with government officials across a variety of venues, including in Congress, federal agencies, and policymakers abroad
